From the European Parliament: Official Launch in Brussels of the World Summit for the Empowerment of Women Farmers in the Congo Basin
Press Release
Brussels, June 3, 2026
– The European Centre for Development, Studies and Geostrategic Analysis (ECDA) and the IPOMA Foundation are pleased to announce the official launch of the World Summit on the Empowerment of Women Farmers in the Congo Basin Countries.
To open this international-scale event, an exclusive press conference will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 12:15 PM at the European Parliament in Brussels.
A High-Level Institutional and Diplomatic Gathering
Placed under the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Congo and supported by the active sponsorship of Belgian Minister of State André Flahaut, this summit establishes itself as a unique strategic crossroads between Europe and Africa. The press conference will bring together numerous eminent figures from political spheres, diplomatic delegations, as well as major figures from international civil society.
Women Farmers: Pillars of Resilience and Food Security
Representing the driving force of the rural economy, women farmers constitute the indispensable pillar of food security, economic sovereignty, and sustainable development in the Congo Basin region — the planet's second green lung. Faced with the urgent challenges of climate disruption and the ecological transition, the summit aims to accelerate their financial empowerment, market access, and technical training.
This meeting with the media will allow the Organizing Committee, partners, and high-ranking dignitaries present to unveil the strategic objectives, major areas of reflection, and international partnerships that will seal the future Brussels Declaration.
