Climate and Economic Justice for Puerto Rico

Rainforest Action Network
Hi Said --

We need to support our brothers and sisters in critical need. Climate crisis and extreme weather events are happening around the globe, often to people whose emissions are much lower than those of us in the developed world. We all saw the unusually strong hurricane that devastated Puerto Rico on September 20. The response from our government has been shockingly inadequate — and markedly different from the response to other hurricanes on the mainland United States. Click here to join our friends at Daily Kos in demanding a just recovery for Puerto Rico.

These extreme weather events are growing in number and severity — climate change is here. At RAN, we shine a light on those profiting off climate change — including  the world’s major financial institutions like JPMorgan Chase. We know that big banks often seek to turn misfortune into private fortunes, profiting off the climate disasters they have funded. Puerto Rico was already buried under a mountain of private debt before the storm struck, and we need to make sure the recovery comes with no strings attached. Click here to oppose additional debt for Puerto Rico.

Puerto Ricans deserve assistance in rebuilding their communities without the fear of incredible debt that other U.S. citizens don’t have to face. The U.S. government should not be in the business of disaster capitalism. We at RAN fight to stop banks from funding the climate crisis. Join Daily Kos to stop them from making money off the latest crisis in Puerto Rico.
